Venue New Theatre, Friars Gate, Exeter
Event type Third Party Event

Exeter's Cygnet Company are delighted to perform their new production of "The Tempest" for Exeter Leukaemia Fund.

The Tempest

Stranded on a magical island with his young daughter, Prospero lives out his days dreaming of revenge and reconciliation. When a storm brings his enemies within his grasp a scheme to settle old scores and repay old debts is conjured.

With its dreamlike logic and mixture of comedy, drama and romance "The Tempest" looks at the painful process of letting go with warmth, humanity and tenderness, and reveals the joyful liberation of acceptance and forgiveness.

Shakespeare's late masterpiece weaves a magical spell with its beautiful language and colourful cast of characters. Cygnet's new production is accessible for all ages and is faithful to the original text.

Cygnet's founder Monica Shallis, was diagnosed with AML in 2005, and directed her final production of A Midsummer Night's Dream in the following spring.  She died in December 2006.  Monica benefited greatly from the services of the Haematology Centre and all of us at Cygnet are indebted to the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital.
